Hy4

H2Fly manages new drive technology

The term "Hy4" hides the technology of a four-seat hydrogen fuel cell passenger aircraft. It's a hybrid with high-performance, long-range PEM fuel cells and high-performance lithium batteries to help with start-up and altitude changes.Flughafen ohne logo The technology on which the Hy4 is based is the result of ten years of DLR's work in the field of electric flying and has been funded under the National Innovation Program Hydrogen and Fuel Cell.

Under the leadership of the Energy Systems Integration Group at the DLR Institute for Technical Thermodynamics in Stuttgart, the Hy4 was equipped with powerful fuel cell systems optimized for aviation conditions. Combined with high-performance lithium batteries, the Hy4 achieves peak speeds of up to 200 kilometers per hour with a range of up to 1500 km at an output of 80kW. With a maximum of four passengers, the Hy4 is the world's first fuel cell-based passenger aircraft.

The partners

Together with our partners from public research institutes, universities and industry, H2Fly as operator of the Hy4 will make an important contribution to the realization of emission-free passenger aviation. As a spin-off of the German Aerospace Center (DLR), we are the optimal link between the scientific work of the DLR, the University of Ulm and the industrial partners Hydrogenics, Pipistrel and the Stuttgart Airport.
